Currawong Books Press is a small Australian picture-book imprint. We welcome enquiries from journalists, reviewers, podcasters, and bloggers — particularly those working in children's literature, Australian publishing, and regional creative industries.

About the press.
Currawong Books Press is an independent Australian picture-book imprint based in the Huon Valley, lutruwita / Tasmania. Founded in 2026 by writer and art director James Nielsen, the press publishes one or two carefully made books a year, each given the time it needs from manuscript through illustration, design, and print.
The press's first title — Clara the Carolling Currawong: A Bush Tale of Finding Your Own Colour — releases in December 2027 as a hardcover picture book for ages 3–8. Future titles are in development.
Currawong Books Press distributes globally through IngramSpark and is open about the use of AI tools in art direction, with full disclosure on every book's copyright page.

Web and print resolution, with full caption and credit. James is also available for portrait sessions in the Huon Valley by arrangement.

Review copies
Hardcover review copies are sent in the four weeks leading up to launch. The signed-edition window opens with the trade edition — write to us if you'd like a numbered copy for a giveaway or feature.

A short press kit accompanies each title launch, including back-cover blurb, author bio, key dates, and ISBNs. Released approximately eight weeks before publication.

James is happy to do print, podcast, and radio interviews — particularly on slow publishing, regional creative practice, and the responsible use of AI in book illustration. Email media@ with a brief outline.
